Blaguna Rajani Curtains, October 28th , 2016. Parameter Drapes Curtains Picture Drapes Curtains Definition Drapes are defined as heavy weight, lined, floor length fabric which is hung on the rod with the help of hooks for the purpose of traversing. Drapery, drapery panels, drops are alternative names for drapes. Curtains on the other hand are light weight, unlined fabric of varying length which is attached to the rod with the help of rings, grommets, tabs or rod pocket casing. Curtains are also called curtain panels. Fabric Rich fabrics like silk, velvet look great for drapes. Fabrics for drapes are often costlier than that of curtains. Cotton, linen work well for curtains. Curtains can also be made out of sheer, lacy fabrics, if you do not intend to use them for privacy purpose. Pattern and Length Drapes are more often than not pleated. There are various pleats that are popular such as French, American, etc. Drapes are always floor length, irrespective of the size of the window or door. Curtains may or may not be pleated. Their length is determined by the size of window. It can either be just long enough to cover the window or it may extend well beyond that. Curtains for French doors are often long and pleated, whereas curtains for sliding glass doors may or may not be pleated. Utility Drapes provide the utility of shielding against light and dust. They are better equipped at filtering light and permit only some of the sunlight to enter the room. Curtains also shield your room from light and dust. However, they are inept at filtering light due to their sheer fabric. Privacy Drapes are made from thick fabric, hence provide better privacy. Moreover, they are lined, which further increases their protection. Hence, drapes are suitable in apartments or neighborhoods where homes are closely located. Curtains are unlined, therefore provide less privacy. They are more apt for large country homes which are better protected from intruders. Elegance Undoubtedly, drapes look more elegant than curtains. It is mostly their rich fabric and pleats which make them even more desirable. Also, the fact that the length of the drapes extends to touch the floor adds to the beauty of the drapes. Hence, drapes are more suitable for elegant places like marriage halls, banquet halls, manors and mansions, churches, etc. Curtains are more of a utility than an accent piece in your home. They look appropriate for homes, offices and other such formal establishments. Space Requirement Drapes take up considerable amount of space due to their heavy fabric. Stack back is the factor that determines the space requirement of drapes. This is nothing but the amount of space required by the drape when opened completely, so that fabric collects at the opposite ends of the rod. The more the pleats, the greater is the stack back. As curtains lack pleats they are more space efficient. Besides, their fabric is often light and sheer, thereby reducing the total bulk, when opened completely. Cost Drapes are obviously costlier than curtains due to the type of fabric used, as well as the quantity of fabric and pattern. Their installation is also expensive. You can hang the curtains on your own, without professional help. Making the curtains at home is also not a difficult task if you are good at sewing.

Anushka Banister Curtains, October 29th , 2016. How will your rods be hung - inside or outside the window frame? For outside the frame - on the wall: the idea here is usually to cover the window completely. Measure 2-5" out from each side of the window trim. The total curtain rod length should be about 12" longer than your window width. And don't be fooled: measure each window in the room - they may look the same size, but they may not be!

Simply put, they can be used as a focal point, or as a backdrop to accentuate a focal point you are trying to create. So, how can you decide what kind of curtains and drapes are more suited to living rooms than any other room in a house? Let's take a look. The choice of drapes depends on the purpose you want to use them for. Of course, the first one is to block out the sunlight, but the choice of curtains depends on the amount of sunlight entering the room. For instance, if it is the morning sunlight, you would choose ones that allow this light to filter into your living room, while you enjoy a cup of tea early in the morning. For this purpose, you could choose light cotton, sheer, or lace materials. However, window treatments also have to provide privacy during the evening. So, having a dual set would be ideal, for you to enjoy your mornings, and privacy in the evenings. On the other hand, if it is the rays of the setting sun that make it through your room, choosing a darker shade would be ideal to block out these harsh rays. As such, thick cotton or silk would be a great choice. Silk curtains are slightly more difficult to maintain, but since your living room is where you entertain your guests, choosing rich curtains is a good investment. This room is also the focal point of your house, which is why all measures toward appropriate home decoration should be followed. As mentioned earlier, apart from the functional use of curtains, they are also used for the purpose of decorating the living room. If you wish to use them as a focal point, then the ideal way to do so is to choose a good pattern and print on them. For instance, a curtain with floral prints would do well in a traditionally decorated room, while a modern room would be able to carry off curtains and drapes with geometric prints beautifully. The manner in which you want to drape them is also important. For instance, do you want luxurious valances, or do you simply want them to stand out on their own, on a beautiful curtain rod? It is only your personal choice that will matter here. Colors are also very important. While the light and privacy factor will help determine the color you choose, the overall decorating pattern and color scheme of the living room will be another factor you should consider. Further, if you want to put up curtains on large windows, keep in mind that the color you choose should not be too dark. A large span of a dark color will make your living room look dull and steal away all the charm it holds. Finally, the shape of your windows are a big deciding factor. Bay window treatments will vary from window treatments for arched windows. Again, both can be as simple or as luxurious as you want them to. Further, while you may choose shorter curtains for windows, it is ideal to have drapes for French doors to give them the grand look they deserve. With these tips, you can get as creative as you wish to, indulge in different styles of curtain draping, and come up with some great curtain ideas based on the overall look of your living space.
